I'm Seeing Wicked Again!!

My friend Clare just invited me last night to see Wicked with her when she sees it in Syracuse in January! I'm extremely excited, it's going to be the First National Tour which has Chandra Lee Schwartz as Glinda right now and I would really love to see her (fingers crossed for no understudies, at least not for Glinda) because from reviews I've read online and recordings of her she seems to be really promising as one of the few actresses who doesn't go ridiculously over the top in the role and makes Glinda a sincere character. Plus I saw her in one of the Pittsburgh CLO shows this past summer (Copacabana. Pretty bland show but I really liked her) so I'd really like to see how she does with Glinda.

Also Donna Vivino is playing Elphaba and while I don't know much about her portrayal (other than that [info]revyrie liked her, and we tend to agree on which Elphabas and Glindas we like) but she was the original Young Cosette in the Broadway production of Les Miserables so it would be interesting to see her just for that little fun fact :)

Also, nice meme from [info]revyrie

Comment here and I will tell you why I like/love you.

Even if we don't talk much, even if we have NEVER spoken, I want EVERYONE to participate. If you want to share the love and do the same at your journal, go ahead. You're under no obligation to carry it on if you comment here.

Les Miserables- Pittsburgh CLO Production- July 7, 2009 (Opening Night!)

I saw the Pittsburgh CLO's Les Miz on Tuesday night and it was fantastic! Honestly, I think it was the best production of the show I've seen. Not that I'm a Mizzie connoisseur like [info]otakuwench  or [info]piratesmile331 , but I like to to believe that I do have somewhat discerning tastes. :D

Broadway is Dark Tonight

Goodbye Love )
I can’t say that Rent dramatically changed my life but it touched my heart deeper than just about any other show I’ve ever seen and even with clunky lyrics and (in the words of Forbidden Broadway’s “Rant”) “dingy lighting, metal platforms, children raging, messy staging” it was a real experience and the beauty of the story was more than capable of shining through any less-than-perfect presentation. I would even argue though that the presentation only helped the message show through and made it more real because it wasn’t about glitz and glam, (a point that London’s Rent: Remixed really seemed to have completely missed) it was about raw, human emotion stripped down to its barest form. Broadway was changed forever when this show opened and now it has been changed again because this show is gone.
I’m so glad I got to see the show once on Broadway but I am so, so sad that I wasn’t able to go one last time and get the feeling of the Nederlander Theater housing that show. The show is just as great on tour but watching it in a beautifully maintained and gorgeous theater such as the Benedum gives such a different feeling from watching it in the dilapidated Nederlander. It just fit in that theater and I’m sorry that I won’t get to experience that feeling again.
But what is most important her, I think, is to not be sad that Rent is gone, or that I didn’t get to see it more often, but to be grateful that it ran long enough for me to see it at least once and to be touched the way so many other fans have been over the last twelve years of this amazing show’s very admirable run. (seventh longest-running show in Broadway history) And, of course, to look forward to the professionally filmed version of Closing Night that will be shown in movie theaters at the end of the month!
Here are some photos of closing night that I found on flickr, followed by some of my favorite pictures of the show:

Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods

Bailey won. Boo.

She's not bad but she honestly was not good enough o beat Autumn who was a fantastic singer and actor, just a slightly clumsy dancer, and really she got better each time. Bailey is a great dancer an ok singer and a really poor, hammy actor who is just trying to copy Laura Bell Bundy who is good, but not all that great in my opinion. She played the part very shallowly and kind of mean. All in all I think she has too much attitude and nowhere near enough sweetness or strength.

I really saw a whole new Elle in Autumn. One who was more mature, one who was smarter and stronger, and one who was deeper. And really she was more ready than Bailey. Bailey is doing alright but I really think she's understudy material and not ready to be a principal.

Sigh...it should have been Autumn.
